Funding
Where does the funding come from?
If you have First Nations Health Benefits and you are a BC resident; funding is covered by FNHA.If you do not have First Nations Health Benefits, funding might be covered by social assistance programs, EI, Friendship Centres, EAP, or personal funding.
Are groceries covered?
No, but assistance may be provided by your band, friendship centre, or social program.
Must I be First Nation's to Attend?
No, but persons with no status must cover their own cost.
How is travel paid for?
First Nations Health Authority, Health Canada, or your band.
How is pre-admission medical paid for?
For status persons, your band will cover medical costs.
Family
Must I have children to attend?
To attend the six-week family program, yes.
People without children are welcome to sign up for the shorter programs (i.e. Restoring Balance, Supportive Recovery, Rebuilding the Circle)
Can pregnant women attend?
We accept mothers in their first trimester, however, as the emotional work can be difficult we recommend they wait until the baby is born. Late trimester medical care cannot be accommodated (i.e. regular doctor appointments for check ups).
What do you consider a family?
A family usually consists of one or both parents or main caregiver and a child or children. Immediate family of the caregiver may also attend as an additional supportive caregiver for the child(ren).
Admission
How do I get Referred?
Clients must be referred by an alcohol and drug counsellor, mental health counsellor, family counsellor social worker, medical person, etc. Clients must have a counsellor to provide post-treatment care.
Can I attend if I'm not from British Columbia?
We have limited admission for Yukon families only.
When can I start?
There is typically a waitlist of 1-2 family programs.
How soon do I need my application completed?
As soon as possible, admission is first come first serve.
Are there waitlists?
Yes, usually 1-2 sessions. The wait may be reduced by thorough completion of the application packages. There may be cancellations near intake day. Clients on the waitlist may be put on standby and must be able to travel here with few days notice.
Does everyone in my family need to fill out an intake package?
Yes, all family members must have an intake package filled out.
Do children need a medical exam?
The children need a medical exam if a parent tests positive for TB, if the children have been in foster care, or if there is an existing medical condition.
What forms are required prior to confirmation of attendance?
- Complete application packages
- Complete medical exams for adults
- Immunization records for children
- School-aged children's Individualized Education Plans (if they have one)
- All copies of court orders (probation, parole, suspended sentence), all MCFD or DAA orders
- Travel verification to and from the centre
- Grocery funding confirmation for six weeks
Do we accept patients on methadone?
Not currently.
