Trauma-informed means:
Personal level
- being aware of one's own trauma and how it may impact one's work
- commitment to working as a whole to support healing and wellness
- commitment to providing trauma-informed, safe care; this includes abstaining from use of alcohol, marijuana, and illicit substances
Organizational level
- aware of collective trauma, its impacts, and best practices to support trauma healing
- revising policies that may cause re-traumatization
- prioritizing safety of environment (emotional/physical/environmental/cultural/spiritual)
- strengths-based approach, Indigenous resiliency
- valuing inclusivity, accessibility, self-efficacy, and peer-support
- responsive to group needs and strengths
- practicing Indigenous values and worldview
- valuing lived experience and the role everyone has in community
